The Altitude Apartments provide much-needed housing for the growing student population at James Madison University while establishing a contemporary architectural presence within Harrisonburg. The building’s modern lines and carefully articulated façade undulation break down the scale of the large residential complex, creating a more dynamic and approachable street presence. Complex building forms and thoughtful detailing utilize platform wood-frame construction, allowing the project to maintain the efficiency and feasibility of wood construction while accommodating a large-scale residential program. Inside, bright, modern interiors complement the architecture with an inviting palette and thoughtfully designed communal spaces that create a welcoming environment for students. The result is a high-density residential development that balances constructability and efficiency with a distinctive architectural identity.
